Nairobi, Kenya – In a significant step toward enhancing mobility services in the region, Motivation will host the WHO Basic Wheelchair Service Provision Training from August 11 to 15, 2025, in Nairobi. The training is tailored for frontline rehabilitation professionals including Occupational Therapists (OTs), Physiotherapists (PTs), Prosthetists, and Orthotists.
Built on the internationally recognized World Health Organization (WHO) and International Wheelchair Service Provision (IWSP) guidelines, the training aims to equip participants with the critical skills and knowledge required for appropriate wheelchair service delivery. The course will focus on practical, real-world solutions to improve the lives of individuals who rely on wheelchairs for independence and quality of life.
“This training isn’t just about devices; it’s about dignity, independence, and professional excellence. We are excited to provide this opportunity for rehabilitation professionals to deepen their skills and interact directly with assistive technology users,” said Charles Kanyi, Senior Orthopaedic Technologist and Regional Service Development Coordinator.
Bridging the Gap in Assistive Technology
Wheelchairs are more than mobility aids—they are life-changing tools that support education, employment, and social inclusion. Yet, many users across Africa still face challenges related to inappropriate prescriptions, poor fitting, and lack of follow-up services.
This 5-day intensive training is designed to address those gaps. Participants will learn to carry out comprehensive assessments, select and fit wheelchairs appropriately, train users, and support long-term mobility outcomes.
