About Us
The National Association of Orthopedic Technologists of Kenya (NAOT-Kenya) is a registered professional body tasked with registering, representing, and advocating for the interests of orthopedic technologists in Kenya.
The emergence of Orthopedic Technology in Kenya dates back to 1942. At the time, students were trained by British Technicians and American Peace Corps purposely to provide services for WW I and WW II survivors as well as well as poliomyelitis and leprosy victims. Notably, the training was not formal until 1972, under the stewardship of Mr. Charles Gotham, an American Prosthetist/Orthotist. The training wing has since had Kenyan heads of departments from Mr. Zedekia Okwiri, Mr. William Odhiambo, Mr. Donbosco Kóchumba, and Mr. Paul Aloo who is the current head of department.
With more personnel getting into the job market, The National Association of Orthopedic Technologists in Kenya was later founded and registered with the Registrar of Sociaties. NAOT Kenya has over the years remained dedicated to advancing physical rehabilitation through excellence, innovation, and advocacy. Beyond supporting professionals under this umbrella, we also work with the Ministry of Health and various agencies or institutions to ensure that Kenyan citizens have access to our services, which they dearly need.
Voices of Leadership
Chairman
Mr. Kenneth K. Meli

I am honored to lead our mission to transform orthopedic orthopedic technology across Kenya. Our vision is to ensure every Kenyan has access to high-quality prosthetic, orthotic, and mobility assistive technology services, enhancing mobility and dignity...
Having been in this profession long enough, I understand both the needs of the Kenyan rehabilitation spectrum and the massive potential and enthusiasm of our members to provide solutions to these needs. I’ve witnessed the resilience of our professionals and the impact of our work in underserved communities-this explains why this transformation needs fast-tracking.
Key milestones over the last few months include the addition of core AT devices into the SHA system as for the first time in Kenyan history, the national insurance now covers various AT devices for civil servants. Also, worth noting is that my office, in partnership with stakeholders such as ATScale, CHAI, KMTC, MOH, and JKUAT is aiming to drive excellence through training, advocacy, and innovation. Together, we are building a future where physical rehabilitation is a right, not a privilege, for all Kenyans. I invite you to join us in this journey—whether as a member, partner, advocate, or a client—to create lasting change in healthcare delivery. Let’s continue to innovate, collaborate, and uplift lives through orthopedic technology.
