About Us
The National Association of Orthopedic Technologists of Kenya (NAOT-Kenya) is a registered professional body tasked with registering, representing, and advocating for the interests of orthopedic technologists in Kenya.
The emergence of Orthopedic Technology in Kenya dates back to 1942. At the time, students were trained by British Technicians and American Peace Corps purposely to provide services for WW I and WW II survivors as well as poliomyelitis and leprosy victims. Notably, the training was not formal until 1972, under the stewardship of Mr. Charles Gotham, an American Prosthetist/Orthotist. The training wing has since had Kenyan heads of departments from Mr. Zedekia Okwiri, Mr. William Odhiambo, Mr. Donbosco Kóchumba, and Mr. Paul Aloo who is the current head of department.
With more personnel getting into the job market, The National Association of Orthopedic Technologists in Kenya was later founded and registered with the Registrar of Societies. NAOT Kenya has over the years remained dedicated to advancing physical rehabilitation through excellence, innovation, and advocacy. Beyond supporting professionals under this umbrella, we also work with the Ministry of Health and various agencies or institutions to ensure that Kenyan citizens have access to our services, which they dearly need.
